Figured considering how controversial this movie is it should have a thread.
Hoping it turns out well
Quote:A second remake was announced by
Blumhouse Productions in 2019. Sophia Takal is set to direct the film and Jason Blum , Ben Cosgrove and Adam Hendricks will produce for Blumhouse. Script was written by April Wolfe and Takal. The remake stars Imogen Poots in the lead role, alongside Aleyse Shannon, Brittany O’Grady, Lily Donoghue and Caleb Eberhardt. Universal is set to release the movie on December 13, 2019.
I have no clue who these people are!
Not hyped. When you start throwing unwarranted shade at the OG in your description of the remake, there’s issues.
I'm really excited about this much more than the CP remake. I'm so happy slashers are slowly coming back even if they are sequels or remakes. Hell Fest is the only original slasher we've gotten in the last year and half right?
For anyone doubting that this movie was trying to shade the original, it was:

Quote:However, these young women aren’t damsels in distress. Instead of simply being slasher fodder as they were in the 1974 original — which starred Olivia Hussey and Keir Dullea), as part of an “upgrade engineered for today,” the sorority sisters are working with “final girl” DNA, fighting back against the murderer.

Director was the actress from VHS' Second Honeymoon segment, is a remake of a brilliant film that doesn't need to be touched, and had the nerve to call Olivia hussey & her co-stars damsels in distress...this movie can take a big FUCK YOU up the ass.

The description also called them slasher fodder (which is absurd, given the characters in the OG are entertaining, well acted, and well-developed). If you're going to remake a classic, maybe don't spend all your time throwing shade at it. Definitely with you on the "This movie can go fuck itself." If it wants to throw shade at the original, it can be judged by the EXACT same standard and it's already coming up short.

As for the Damsels in Distress, Jess does a good job defending herself and fighting back. The other girls don't fight back as much, but that's because they're regular people going about their lives and completely unaware a psychotic serial killer is targeting them until they're dead. Not exactly dated damsels in distress.
I really, really wanted to be excited for this cause I absolutely adore the OG Black Christmas but honestly? The crappy trailer (and the crappy way they pitched the movie) just killed any and all interest I had in this.
