Quote:A pizza delivery girl at the end of her financial rope has to fight for her life -- and her tips -- when her last order of the night turns out to be high-society Satanists in need of a virgin sacrifice.

Another Popcorn Frights screening, this one is some good old-fashioned Satan horror, with some comedy mixed in. I won't lie, this reminds me a bit of The Babysitter, but since I liked that movie, I'm not complaining. The cast is also pretty impressive.

Quote:In Caracas, a Russian under the influence of the krokodil drug is infected with a rabies virus and unleashes an epidemic of flesh-eating cannibals. Amid all this, a doctor embarks on a hostile journey in a destroyed Venezuela to save his son from infection.

Zombies, South American-style. Another Popcorn Frights screening, and this one definitely shows some promise.

Quote:A comic book-obsessed serial killer teaches his son how to get away with a series of brutal murders until the boy befriends a mysterious man, who threatens to expose the family's horrifying secret.

They're showing this at Popcorn Frights next month, and it looks like it has the potential to be a pretty nasty piece of work.

Quote:This highly ambitious edge-of-your-seat epic is a weighty doomsday tale of disaster, acid rain, love, evil Russians, extreme car crashes, and exploding helicopters, among other phenomena. Initially framed as a family drama, the story quickly moves to pack everything you can imagine into a breath-stoppingly intense survival story featuring jaw-dropping bravura action.

Apparently, this is the Swedish Red Dawn, set during the midsommar. They're screening this at Popcorn Frights next month, but I'm putting it here because it already came out in Sweden last year. The trailer looks great, so I'm definitely excited to see this.

Quote:When five teen employees at the local movie theater in a small Christian town discover a mysterious old film hidden in its basement, they unleash an alluring succubus who gives them a sex education...written in blood.

Popcorn Frights is screening this next month, and they sold me with four words: "Trigger warning: exploding balls." Yeah, this may not wind up a particularly great movie, but it sounds like it'll be fucked-up at least.

After a pair of amateur criminals break into a suburban home, they stumble upon a dark secret that two sadistic homeowners will do anything to keep from getting out.

This movie looks absolutely hysterical. Popcorn Frights is screening this next month, and the preview they showed had me sold. Love the cast, love the premise, love the sense of humor... and apparently, not only was the screenplay on the 2016 Black List, it's also getting great reviews so far. This is one of the big ones I'm looking forward to at the festival.

Quote:A troubled college freshman, Luke, suffers a violent family trauma and resurrects his childhood imaginary friend Daniel to help him cope.

I'm always down for a good mind-screw, and fortunately, they're showing this one at Popcorn Frights next month.

Quote:Based on the centuries-old poem, a family moves into a secluded mansion where they soon find themselves being targeted by an entity taking the form of a giant spider.

I like the cast they have for this, and I loved Eight Legged Freaks, the movie that Popcorn Frights is comparing this to for their screening next month. I may think that spiders are cool, but I know several people who are terrified of them, and this looks right up their alley.

Quote:A severely injured man and woman awake in an abandoned sanitarium only to discover that a sadistic caretaker holds the keys to their freedom and the horrific answers as to their real identity.

Another Popcorn Frights screening next month, this one looking like a twisted asylum thriller that, even if I think I know where it's gonna go, still looks like it'll be a fucked-up journey.

Quote:A brilliant painter facing the worst creative block of her life looks to reignite her creative juices by letting loose — as in, taking every drug in sight and tearing through raucous house parties and heavy metal bars. After a few nights spent with her debauchery-loving friends, though, she notices changes within herself. On the plus side, she’s finally painting again, but she’s also developing a strange desire for blood. As someone who has never been able to control her vices in the first place, she is quickly and violently consumed by this bloodlust, spiraling into a hallucinatory hellscape of drugs, sex, and murder in the sleazy underbelly of Los Angeles.

They're screening this at Popcorn Frights next month, and the comparisons to Abel Ferrara and Maniac that they make definitely piqued my interest. The trailer also gave me Neon Demon vibes, in both the mood in the first half and the fucked-up violence in the second half.
