  The Dead Don't Die (2019)

The Dead Don't Die (2019)

Rated R for zombie violence/gore, and for language

[Image: MV5BZWQxZDIzNzUtZGE3MS00MGU3LTk5NjMtZGFj...@._V1_.jpg]

Quote:In the sleepy small town of Centerville, something is not quite right. The moon hangs large and low in the sky, the hours of daylight are becoming unpredictable, and animals are beginning to exhibit unusual behaviors. News reports are scary, and scientists are concerned, but no one foresees the strangest and most dangerous repercussion that will soon start plaguing Centerville: the dead rise from their graves and feast on the living, and the citizens must battle to survive.

This movie was very much an acquired taste, and it probably won't be anything more than a cult classic. Yet that taste was one that did work for me. Most of the movie is less zombie horror, more deadpan humor courtesy of Bill Murray and Adam Driver, and they managed to carry it through and give it just the right kind of lazy atmosphere to pull me into its small town setting. The plot is an afterthought, and the satire of climate change and modern society is on-the-nose to the point where I couldn't help but wonder if writer/director Jim Jarmusch was really satirizing the social commentary of Romero's movies, but this is a film powered entirely by its mood, and on that front, it did the job.

My full review is here.

Probably the single biggest question of the Child's Play franchise: which villain do you prefer?

Best & Debut and Favorite icon of these choices?
Posted by: Joshua - 06-20-2019, 07:06 PM - Forum: Polls & Vs. Threads - Replies (4)

Of these slasher debuts, which classic is your all-time favorite and who is your favorite icon?

1. Halloween (1978)
2. Friday the 13th (1980)
3. Child's Play (1988)
4. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
5. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
6. Scream (1996)

My personal ranking:

Scream (1996) > The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) > Friday the 13th (1980) > Halloween (1978) > A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) > Child's Play (1988)

Who is your all-time favorite icon? Mine: Michael Myers

Five friends graduating from high school become involved in a terrible crime on the Fourth of July. They agree to cover it up but a year later, the secret slowly eats away at them. The group soon discover that someone knows what they did. In this gut-wrenching, action-packed teen horror Natalia Dyer makes her first good film debut.

  Favorite Endings?

So, with Game of a Thrones long finished, I figured it was an appropriate time to see which character/story endings people loved the most (the final season especially, but even earlier ones like the Red Wedding count). Bonus points if you explain why.
