They really should've just called this Season of the Witch and marketed it as "from the creator of Halloween". Ignore the fact that it's a Halloween movie, and it's actually surprisingly good. It did an excellent job creating an atmosphere where it felt as though you and the characters were being watched, and even though Carpenter didn't personally write or direct it, its satire was very much of a kind with Escape from New York or They Live. There are some pretty corny bits, and the villain is more or less evil for the sake of it (it was really Dan O'Herlihy's performance that made Cochran memorable, not his evil plan), but this is definitely going in my October rotation.
