The Moana/"You're Welcome"/"It's Maui time" jokes alone made this worth it. I actually think their interactions with Norway will be quite interesting to see, given that Norway is an offense-focused naval civ and the Maori are a defense-focused one.

Pay attention, however, to the full description of the Maori's unique ability, Mana. They didn't mention it in the trailer, but it said that the Maori can't harvest bonus resources or earn Great Writers. In other words, they face a serious uphill battle winning a Cultural Victory, though the Marae unique building does offer a big boost to Culture output to defend against somebody else going for such. On the other hand, I'd say that the Marae's boost to Faith output, and their defensive nature, both lend themselves well to a Religious Victory.

They can, however, still chop down trees (most likely) which is huge for wonders, and tiles that generate culture will also generate tourism towards the late game. It’ll be an atypical one, but I think it’ll still be viable. I agree that religion also seems like a potentially strong candidate, depending on how much the early start slows down from great prophet generation.

Look, you guys stay in the rambler. I`ll get help. If I wipe out, I`ll fucking limp for help. But, I`m coming back
here. I`m coming back with cops, and choppers, and large fucking guns, and those things are going to pay. For Jules...

That's a good point on culture. I'm watching the devs' livestream of the Maori, and they brought that up, that they become a lot more competitive culturally in the late game. On the other hand, they also revealed a major weakness that the Maori are gonna have when it comes to loyalty, because of how their ocean start and unique ability pushes them to spread across the ocean, settling marginal lands that are often closer to other civs' capitals than their own. Spamming cities across continents and islands as Polynesia was a viable strategy in Civ V; that won't be the case here.

Third new civ is Canada, led by Wilfrid Laurier, making the leak three-for-three. They're focused on culture and diplomacy; they can't declare war on city-states or a surprise war (or have a surprise war declared on them), but they receive bonus diplomatic favor for tourism, emergencies, and scored competitions. They're also great for rapidly expanding across colder regions, being able to build farms on tundra and getting a steep discount on purchasing tundra and snow tiles. The unique improvement is the ice hockey rink, which grants amenities and culture for nearby tundra and snow tiles, extra culture if built next to an entertainment district with a stadium, and also food and production upon researching professional sports. If this sounds like an overpowered version of Scotland's golf course, well, the catch is that it can only be built on tundra or snow tiles. The unique unit, meanwhile, is the mountie, which can create a National Park and gets extra combat strength when fighting near one.

Seems like Russia finally has some competition for Tunrda cities. Nice. Aside from that, it’s worth noting that vid shows we actually get benevolent emergencies to help Civs hit by disasters in exchange for diplomatic favor. We also finally got our first look at the world congress which was long overdue.

The devs did a stream of Canada a few hours ago, and the biggest news from it has nothing to do with Canada. Rather, it's that they've literally turned the Power of Rock into a gameplay mechanic. Rock bands are a new civilian unit you use to generate tourism, purchased with Faith much like naturalists.
